Description
Fan or Hundred Faces fan with fourteen ivory sticks and two guards and painted double paper leaf. Obverse with scene of Royal family visiting southern China with a hundred figures, with applied hand-painted ivory faces and woven silk robes. Reverse with scene including a heroes’ cemetery. Figures with applied hand-painted ivory faces and woven silk robes. Borders with a variety of Chinese symbols. Guards carved in deep relief with scenes of merchants’ shops. Sticks pared and carved in very shallow relief with figures. Shaped metal loop at pivot and attached cream silk cord with two tassels.
